In-State Swearing-In

Congratulations on recently passing the Georgia Bar Exam and/or becoming eligible to practice on motion in the State of Georgia! If you graduated from law school and have passed the MPRE, you are now eligible for admission into the State Bar of Georgia! As an applicant, you may choose any county in Georgia to be sworn in and formally admitted; however, we are honored that you are considering Fulton County.

Due to the large number of applicants that will be sworn in, there will be no individual oaths administered in Fulton County from June 10 - July 1, 2019. Should this present an inconvenience for you, we sorrowfully recommend that you contact another county within the State of Georgia to be sworn in. Please direct all questions to Nicholas F. Cotten at (404)-613-4217 or by emailing Nicholas Cotten, or the customer assistance desk at (404)-613-5313.

Should you choose to not participate in the mass ceremony, you are responsible for scheduling your own individual ceremony and completing the necessary provisions needed to take an independent oath. From this link: Fulton County Superior Court Judges, contact a Fulton County Superior Court Judge, schedule a time and date to be sworn in and email copies of your certificate of eligibility, driver's license and the specifics of your ceremony to Nicholas Cotten at least 48 hours prior to your confirmed swearing in date (this is a mandatory time frame). On the day of your swearing in, please report to the Clerk's office at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time with your original certificate and you will be escorted to the judge's chambers.

If you reside out of state and wish to be sworn in by proxy, please scan and email a copy of your original certificate of eligibility and state issued I.D. to Nicholas Cotten and indicate in the email that you wish to be sworn in by proxy. Also provide your phone number and out-of-state mailing address. Instructions will be forwarded to you (via email) on this process once your request is received.

***This swearing-in is not applicable for the Supreme, Appellate or Northern District Courts. Separate swearing-in's must be coordinated with those municipalities individually.

State bar of Georgia membership fees are directly impacted by the dates in which an applicant is sworn into the Superior Court. Please contact the State Bar of Georgia for more information regarding membership fees.
